  • Timex is selling 1,000 limited-edition Waterbury watches for $1.
  • The unbelievably affordable price is a nod to Timex’s historic Yankee pocket watch from the 1850s, which was sold for a single dollar.
  • These Timex Waterbury watches will be up for grabs from November 16th at 10 AM (local time), exclusively through Wallace Bishop Brisbane City and Myer CBD locations in Sydney, Perth, and Melbourne.

Watch collecting isn’t the most affordable hobby — even if you can build a great collection on a budget — but Timex is here to change that narrative.

To celebrate its 170th anniversary, the American-founded watchmaker will sell 1,000 limited-edition Timex Waterbury watches, each costing a measly dollar.

Why would they do such a thing?

In 1854, Timex was founded as the Waterbury Clock Company and — just as the brand is renowned for offering well-made and affordable timepieces in the present day — started off by selling Yankee pocket watches for $1 a pop.

The world has obviously changed in countless ways over the last 170 years. But despite this, the American watchmaker remains headquartered in Waterbury, Connecticut; and continues to manufacture timepieces that can be purchased by anyone.

“Our 170th anniversary isn’t merely a celebration of our storied past — it’s a heartfelt reaffirmation of our unwavering commitment to making quality timepieces accessible to everyone,” said Timex Group’s CMO Shari Fabiani.

“The $1 Anniversary Watch pays homage to the original Waterbury campaign, which promised ‘correct time for little money.’ In crafting this watch, we wanted to honour the loyal consumers who have trusted and cherished our brand over the years.”

The forthcoming Timex Waterbury watches feature a 40mm stainless steel case and a striking white dial with lacquered Roman numeral hour markers and a 170th Anniversary Edition logo. Powered by a quartz movement, the solid steel caseback flaunts a commemorative engraving.

Throughout the years, the Waterbury Clock Company sold six million Yankee pocket watches — including to iconic author Mark Twain — and now it’s your chance to own a piece of history. For more details, including the specific Aussie retailers selling the $1 Timex watches, head to the site below.
