It’s no secret that, at Boss Hunting, we’re very big fans of the PRX Powermatic: Tissot’s range of stylish and reasonably priced mechanical timepieces.

At a bare minimum, it’s a design we’re always happy to see more of, but in the case of this new 40mm model in forged carbon, we felt it deserved a bit of standalone attention: considering how it evokes many of the core team’s interests.

Whether it’s the significant role of carbon fibre in automotive or the way in which the material evokes the visual stylings of Batman and/or Brutalism, this incarnation of the PRX is a sufficiently different beast from Tissot’s existent bestsellers — like the gold PVD number hobbyists can’t seem to get enough of.

Tissot PRX forged carbon

The practical attributes of forged carbon aren’t something we need dwell on for too long, but — as in numerous applications from various other brands over the years — Tissot’s take has been engineered for lightness, strength and impressive shock resistance.

Those performance stats are, of course, important; but what’s arguably even more interesting is the way the forged carbon shows up in this PRX.

Made up of thousands of continuous carbon fibre filaments, the case here is, in essence, solid resin. Swirling veins of white, grey, and silver mean that the experience of wearing this material (especially in the present 40mm x 11.2mm) goes far beyond your average matte black watch.

In conjunction with the integrated rubber strap — Tissot has equipped it with a handy push-pin locking mechanism — the overall package is one that will definitely appeal to archetypal Aussie watch enthusiasts: the sort of individual who desires a great looking, no-nonsense timepiece that is capable of going the distance in a variety of active outdoor settings.

Pictured: In line with existing models in the ‘Powermatic’ sub-range, the new PRX in forged carbon gets a self-winding movement with an 80-hour power reserve. Impressive value, come to think of it.
