Zenith has just delivered the worldโs first violet automatic chronograph movement with the release of the Zenith Defy 21 Ultraviolet. A gorgeous looking timepiece which Iโm filing under โKiller Eye-Candy 2K20โ.
This high-frequency watch appears in a 44mm Titanium case, which boasts of an โentirely matteโ microblasted finish. Showcasing a violet-treated movement, violet fabric-effect rubber strap, and tastefully grey dial โ thereโs really not much else to say. Except, of course, โhow much?โ (which weโll get to in just a moment).
The Defy 21 is the highest-frequency regular production chronograph currently available โ capable of timing within 1/100th of a second.
Itโs this very reputation that inspired the use of violet. Violet, of course, being the colour with the highest frequency on the spectrum according to the scientific concept of light.
Is it bold? Yes. A little loud, even? Also yes. Then again, so are all memorable statements โ as well as all memorable statement pieces. And make no mistake, this is definitely a statement piece. Those of you who like what you see sans the colour, however, will be happy to know there are other options on hand.
The Zenith Defy 21 Ultraviolet will be available to purchase starting August of this year for US$13,100.
