What’s even luckier is that you’ll be spoilt for choice, with variations in accommodation to suit every taste and price range. Uniform across all options is, however, an opulent and luxury stay boasting terrific practicality. To cut to the chase, I’m talking about Byron Beach Abodes – a company offering six unique, boutique properties all within walking distance of the Byron Bay beachfront.
The portfolio comprises of The Chapel, The Chalet, Magnolia House, The Cottage, The Villas, and The Bower (including suites, a barn, a cottage, and a house). Each Abode features a unique, spectacularly appointed design and prices range from low $200’s to mid $1,000’s per night, mostly based on how many people are accommodated. We thought the Villas and The Bower deserved a bit more exposition.
The Villas of Byron
This placed impressed us. It might have been the heated marble floors, the private heated swimming pool and spa, the outdoor showers, the king beds, or the bottle of Grant Burge champagne in the fridge. Truth be told: it was all of them. The Villas spare no expense to ensure absolute sumptuousness and extravagance, this definitely shows. The experience feels somewhat like a private oasis; an exclusive compound set against the backdrop of a lush coastal rainforest. You get the feeling that everything from the pillows to the perfectly raked sand by the pool has been meticulously planned to make guests feel special. The friendliness and helpfulness of the management team certainly made us feel that way.

The Villas are designed and furnished to a modern Balinese theme. We didn’t find this tacky like many other hotels/resorts that follow an Asian form. Rather, they seem to pull it off by keeping it refined and modern. Sleek wooden finishes on the roof and floor lend homely character to the furnishings, whilst the crème marble floors in living spaces and bathrooms bring a contrasting touch of modernity. Externally, landscaping comprising Balinese palms and vegetation as well as a pond feature at the entrance makes for a visually pleasing aesthetic. The oversized bedrooms are comforting and inviting, with the enormous king beds showcasing views of your private pool.
The technology in the house is a smart touch. Every Villa comes with a large home entertainment system in the lounge including Apple and cable TV, a Sonos sound system and Wi-Fi, all controlled via a universal remote. The lighting in the Villas is operating by numerous digital wall-mounted switches. We found this to be a bit tricky initially but soon figured it out.

The outdoor area is certainly a highlight. A large daybed, dining table, and loungers by the pool make for many opportunities to relax. Combine this with the ridiculous fruit platter received on arrival and you’ve got yourself a perfect day by the pool. Nine-inch-thick walls and the sound of running water from the pool’s fountain ensures absolute isolation from neighbours – this I can confirm.
Lastly, worth mentioning is the In-Villa services menu (for those looking for that little bit extra). The menu includes In-Villa spa treatments, yoga, a three-course meal prepared by a chef in your Villa, seafood and mezze platters, cakes, champagne, fondue, and picnic hampers. Our personal favourite is the ‘Romantic Turndown’ service, where for $300 the staff will “set the mood for a romantic night in with 100 candles throughout your Villa, rose petal bath, champagne on ice, scattered rose petals, music and chocolate.”
The Bower
Byron Beach Abodes’ newest addition to the family. The property was an old motel that has been renovated and completely turned around by the company. Room options include the Suites, The Cottage, The Barn, and the House, which are suited based on the number of people in your party.
The Bower Suites come in at the more affordable end of the Byron Beach Abodes portfolio price range, with rooms starting at just over $200 per night. They lack nothing in the visual department, with the brand-new fit out a pastel design with rich greys, browns, blues, blacks and whites. The property is a five-minute drive from town and has chic bicycles to hire for those wanting to explore by two wheels. As if The Bower needed more positives, construction is about to start on a swimming pool for the complex. The Bower is a good pick for a weekend surf trip or romantic interlude. The larger options, such as the Cottage, accommodate ten people and make for an ideal mate’s trip pad or family getaway.
