Despite international visitations grinding to a definite halt this year, Condé Nast Traveler has released its 33rd annual Readers’ Choice Awards celebrating the very best cities this world of ours currently has to offer. Decided by a considerable 600,000+ votes, there was a “striking” amount of diversity among the global superpower cities.
While Sydney was given a nod for the third consecutive year, rival city Melbourne – which placed three ranks above Sydney in the 2018 list – has been snubbed. Whether it’s for the obvious reason or otherwise has not been stated, but if I were a betting man, I’d put my money on the former.
In any case, Sydney managed to secure its highest ranking in recent history – #4. A notable improvement from the #10 spot last year, as well as the #6 position during the year before that:
“Australia’s largest city is an ideal getaway no matter the season. Dine al fresco, swim like a Sydneysider in rock pools, and head to Bondi and Redleaf beaches in the summer (remember – that’s during our winter). In winter, explore the city’s vibrant arts and culture calendar through Vivid Sydney and make time to eat out in Paddington, check out the cool-kid neighbourhood of Surry Hills, and ferry over to Manly, Australia’s answer to Montauk.”
