The folks over at Executive Traveller have broken what is quite possibly the greatest (and most important) news story of 2021. While the vast majority of Australia counted down the days until international travel finally returned, Lewis the jet-setting dog flew from Sydney to Italy in business class with Singapore Airlines.
A retired racing greyhound and graduate of Melbourne-based Greyt Greys Rescue – a non-profit group manned by volunteers dedicated to rescuing, adopting, and fostering former racing greyhounds, before transitioning them into forever homes – Lewis accompanied his mum, who only recently decided to move from Melbourne to Italy.

Initially, our four-legged friend was destined for a kennel in the cargo hold. But fortune favours the goodest bois, and given how the flight was practically empty, an upgrade to Row 1 was on the cards. Sources indicate Lewis made himself at home in no time, with plenty of room for this dog to accomplish the occasional Big Stretchâ„¢ (“Ooh, big stretch) in his very own business class cabin.
Of course, timezones weren’t the only things crossed on this flight of flights. As they approached Bel Paese, Lewis crossed a personal milestone: celebrating another year on Earth. Obligatory cake and treat-os were rolled out on the refreshment cart. According to Greyt Greys Rescue, the crew onboard this particular Singapore Airlines crew referred to him as “the best dog they’ve ever had, including fully-trained service dogs.” No crying, no accidents, just vibes and naps. Now that’s high praise.

Executive Traveller’s Editor-in-Chief David Flynn writes it’s not yet known if Lewis was able to collect any KrisFlyer miles or gain Star Alliance status on his 16,500-kilometre international journey.
