As part of its recently announced $100 million lounge roadmap, which will roll out over the next three years, Qantas has confirmed that the airline will be building a brand new first class lounge at London Heathrow’s Terminal 3.

Having its own dedicated first class lounge at London’s Heathrow Airport seems like a completely reasonable idea given the Flying Kangaroo is going ahead with plans for non-stop Project Sunrise flights to the UK from both Sydney and Melbourne.

This, of course, means that the current Qantas London Lounge will be rebranded as the official Qantas Business Lounge once the first class lounge opens. And that obviously indicates that the Qantas First Class Lounge in London will represent a significantly more modern take as the existing lounge, which is often referred to as one of the better Qantas lounges overseas.

“London is one of the most important destinations on our network and it’s the perfect location for a First Lounge, especially with our direct Project Sunrise flights on the way,” said Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce in a press release sent to media today.

Details are scant but so far we know that the new Qantas London First Lounge will offer “sweeping views of the airfield” and include a number of wellness features alongside an upmarket dining experience. Convenience will also be a major attraction for the lounge, with direct access to the boarding gates Qantas will be using for the Qantas A350 flights.

The Qantas First Class Lounge will be open for passengers flying in the Qantas First Class Suites, as well as top-tier Qantas Platinum and Qantas Platinum One frequent flyers and their Oneworld Emerald equivalents. Qantas Chairman’s Lounge members will also be able to access to the new First Class Lounge.
