2024 has been yet another triumphant year for Qatar Airways, which was recently named World’s Best Airline for the eighth time. Qantas, on the other hand, was forced to adjust seats upright and stow away tray tables as they touched down to an all-new low at #24.

In years gone past, it had reached lofty altitudes: peaking at #4 and achieving #5, as recently as the post-COVID 2022. But after being relegated to #17 last year, Qantas now finds itself even further from the top. A definite blow to the reputation in the wake of record profits.

The majority of Qantas’ compatriot carriers fared no better this year. Virgin Australia went from #46 to #54, while Jetstar worsened from #69 to #74. The sole Aussie representative to showcase any signs of improvement was Rex, which climbed six spots to #50 and was named 4th in the World’s Best Regional Airlines category — above Virgin Australia, which came in at 6th.
