In October last year, Virgin Australia launched a unique concept called the Middle Seat Lottery. The idea is simple, offering passengers who choose the middle seat on any eligible Virgin Australia flight what is essentially a lucky door prize, with one winner chosen each week with some pretty damn tempting one-off rewards like Virgin Voyages cruises and instant Platinum Velocity Frequent Flyer Status.
It could have just as easily been a middling marketing tactic but Virgin Australia’s prize pool offered some serious glitz and made flying on the worst seat a lot more appealing. Evidently, the Virgin Australia Middle Seat Lottery has been so appealing and popular amongst passengers that the airline has gone and extended the concept, which was originally meant to wrap up on April 23, 2023.
Now the Virgin Australia Middle Seat Lottery will run up until Sunday, July 9 of this year with a new prize pool worth over $45,000 with an additional 11 weekly prizes including the following:
- Return flights to Tokyo with Virgin Australia and 250,000 Velocity Frequent Flyer Points.
- Return flights to Europe with Qatar Airways and an “exclusive once-in-a-lifetime luxury experience” in Doha for two people.
- A tropical North Queensland getaway with the chance to swim with saltwater crocodiles for four people.
- A 3-night stay in Townsville with a waterfall and a tropical island tour via helicopter and sailboat cruise.
- A curated beer tasting onboard a private jet, followed by a brewery tour with Straddie Brewing Co. on North Stradbroke Island.
And while it seems we’ll be missing out on that elusive instant Platinum Velocity Frequent Flyer status that was in the original $237,132 prize pool, the above prizes aren’t too shabby at all.
How To Enter The Virgin Australia Middle Seat Lottery
Note that to be eligible for the Middle Seat Lottery you’ll need to be a Velocity Frequent Flyer member aged 18 years or older. Joining the loyalty program is free, so best do that now if you’re planning any flights in the next couple of months.
You’ll also need to actually tap a dedicated Middle Seat Lottery tile in the Virgin Australia app within 48 hours of your flight’s scheduled departure time. Once you tap this tile you’ll simply need to find your flight and enter your details. Although anyone who just has a middle seat assigned to them during check-in will also be eligible for the Middle Seat Lottery.
