Qatar Airways has just come to the rescue of Virgin Australia status holders with a rarely offered status match opportunity aiming to poach new customers from a raft of embattled airlines across the world.
Alongside Virgin Australia, Qatar is also offering the status match to top-tier frequent flyers from Singapore Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Emirates, Etihad Airways, and South African Airways
Like Qantas, Qatar Airways is part of the oneworld alliance, which means you’ll enjoy all the perks that you would if you were a Qantas Silver, Gold or Platinum frequent flyer – including access to domestic and international Qantas lounges (like the stunning Qantas First Lounge in Singapore).
To get in on the status match, firstly you need to make sure you hold status (anything above the base level) with one of the above airlines. Then you’ll need to:
- Join Qatar Airways Privilege Club by visiting qmiles.com
- Email your last two months’ statements and a copy of your frequent flyer membership card from selected airlines, along with your Qatar Airways Privilege Club membership number to [email protected], with the subject line “Privilege Club Status Match”
Your membership status match request will be reviewed, and approval sent within 10 business days.
You will, however, need to do it quickly. This offer ends at 23:59 on Wednesday May 20 (Qatar time). Your new Qatar Airways Privilege Club status will last 12 months, and Qatar are requiring only half the usual Qpoints to retain it for another 12 months on top of that.
If you’re a Virgin Australia Velocity Silver, Gold, or Platinum status holder, this deal is really a no brainer.
