There have been many unique properties and once-in-a-lifetime accommodations listed on Airbnb over the past few years. From Seth Rogen’s house (with Seth Rogan in it) to the outrageously large house from Home Alone, it’s always fascinating to see what kind of unique rental pops up on the platform next. Currently, that fascination belongs to the famed Palais Garnier in Paris, best known as the highly ornate theatre that inspired cultural phenomenon Phantom of the Opera, now listed on Airbnb to celebrate the record-breaking musical’s final run.
After over three decades of dominating the industry, Phantom of the Opera will conclude its run on Broadway this month. And while the curtain closes on the production’s 13,925th showing, the end brings about a chance for two fans to spend the night in box 37 at the Palais Garnier, otherwise known as the “Box of Honour” considering it’s the largest and most exclusive opera box in the heritage theatre.
The Napolean III-style box is as opulent as the old-world French aesthetic gets. The ornate interiors of the entire theatre seem to be mirrored in box 37’s transformation from the most coveted spot in the building to a bed chamber that screams 19th Century French aristocracy. The space has been decorated with mismatched gilded furniture and a plush red carpet with brocade textiles lining the box and framing the direct view of the dramatic stage.

A night in Box 37, which sleeps just two people, will also include an exclusive tour of the Palais Garnier and the theatre’s underground lake, a key setting in Phantom of the Opera. The tour will also take guests through private dance studios with city views, while other complementary experiences are included such as private lessons from an Opera de Paris Ballet dancer, an exclusive recital from the Paris Opera Academy and dinner backstage.
The one-night Airbnb Phantom of the Opera stay is just for two people and will be hosted by Véronique Leroux, the great-granddaughter of Phantom of the Opera’s creator, Gaston Leroux. The exclusive booking opens up on Airbnb on March 1 at 12 PM ET (4 AM AEDT) and costs just 37 euros (AU$57). The stay itself will take place on July 16, 2023 with no other nights on the schedule.
