There is, of course, that rooftop infinity pool and sky bar that should crown the Surry Hills hotel nicely, but alas there are very few details beyond that right now. We do know that it’ll be competing with nearby rooftop hotel pools at Kimpton Margot Sydney and The Old Clare, and yet neither of them has an infinity edge that looks out over the city.
Sydney’s seemingly endless stream of new luxury hotel announcements continues as Toga Far East Hotels confirms plans to bring a slick 102-room property to Surry Hills as part of the new Collection by TFE Hotels banner. The headline here is that it will be one of the only hotels in the area with a rooftop infinity pool, which from renders released to the media this week looks like it’ll be a sure-shot favourite in summer, alongside a restaurant operated by the same team behind some of the city’s most acclaimed restaurants – Quay, Bennelong, Firedoor and Otto.
The hotel itself looks nice enough, at least from what we can tell so far, but having a restaurant by the award-winning Fink Group will surely give the yet-to-be-named TFE Collection property a distinct edge over some of the nearby competition, which includes the just-opened Ace Hotel and the luxury-boutique Paramount House Hotel.
TFE, perhaps best known for mid-range favourites like the Adina Apartment hotels and Vibe hotels, introduced the new, higher-end Collection by TFE Hotels brand of distinct design-led properties a few years ago. The label includes Savoy Hotel on Little Collins in Melbourne, Calile Hotel in Brisbane and Hotel Britomart in Auckland – three unique properties that have all received acclaim as individual properties.
Hotel Britomart, for example, has become one of the most awarded in Auckland. We picked it as one of the best hotels in Auckland, while Brisbane’s Calile Hotel has built up a similar reputation as one of the most luxurious in the city.
Aside from curved brickwork, plenty of greenery and stoned pathways, there aren’t too many details on what to expect from the new Sydney hotel when it opens in early 2024 as part of Toga Group’s 1.2 hectares mixed-used Surry Hills Village development. Once complete, the new project will be yet another precinct for Sydney with enough scope to include various shops, apartments, event spaces, workspaces and different dining options. So at least we know the hotel should be exceptionally convenient for both international and interstate visitors.
TFE has already impressed the city recently with A By Adina on Hunter Street, which has proven popular amongst the after-work crowd thanks to 22nd-floor cocktail bar Dean & Nancy. How they work in a luxury hotel will be interesting to watch, especially given the city is about to receive a whole heap of new properties like Accor’s Porter House Hotel – opened next month – and the very first Australian hotel for the legendary Waldorf Astoria brand.
More information, including the actual name of the Collection by TFE Hotels Sydney property, should be rolling out ahead of the early 2024 opening so we’ll be updating this piece once we know more.
