InterContinental Sydney Reveals Slick Refresh For Its Massive Presidential Opera Suite

Many years ago we wrote about the reputation of InterContinental Sydney’s Presidential Opera Suite, which has historically been the go-to whenever the world’s most notable figures visited the harbour city, from Barack Obama and Bill Clinton to Frank Sinatra and Jennifer Aniston.

Looking back at that article now makes the hotel’s pinnacle offering look shockingly dated, especially when compared to what it now looks like after last year’s $120 million refurbishment. The Presidential Opera Suite has been substantially refreshed along with two other high-end offerings in the Royal Opera Suite and the Governor Opera Suite.

The three new premium suites were shaped by Woods Bagot, using blue and green hues to mirror the genuinely jaw-dropping views which are amongst the best perspectives of Circular Quay you could ask for. That Presidential Opera Suite is of the most interest here, located on level 29 with large windows scanning the harbour city’s best angles, maximised to make the suite feel much more grandiose than it otherwise would.

Making up the 245 square metre suite is a separate lounge room and large dining area with capacity for 14 seated diners. You’ve got a kitchen with a butler’s entry, a master bedroom with the suite’s best views and a bedroom with a lush circular tub looking over the harbour (near one of those high-tech Japanese toilets). The outdoor terrace offers even better views of the Sydney Opera House and Royal Botanic Garden.

Both the 150 square metre Royal Opera Suite and the 105 square metre Governor Opera Suite take a similar approach in terms of layout. However, it’s this Presidential Opera Suite, the largest suite in Sydney, that should help InterContinental Sydney sustain its reputation even in the face of more luxury hotels arriving in Sydney over the next few years.

InterContinental Sydney’s $120 million transformation was revealed last year, extending to all aspects of the heritage hotel including all 509 guestrooms and suites, public spaces, restaurants and bars. Including the rooftop Aster Bar.

The nightly rate for the InterContinental Sydney Presidential Opera Suite varies greatly. You’d need to head to the website and fill out an enquiry form if you’re interested in staying in Sydney’s biggest hotel room.
