Janu (“Soul” in Sanskrit) will debut later this year as the very first sister brand to Aman (“peace” in Sanskrit), with Janu Tokyo set to introduce the new name. With the property locked in for an Autumn 2023 opening date, Janu will form a major part of the modern 8.1-hectare Azabudai Hills development, leading the charge when it comes to one of Tokyo’s most notable new lifestyle precinct with 122 generously sized guest rooms coupled with a self-contained dining scene and one of the city’s largest wellness facilities.
Given Aman has built a sturdy reputation for wellness, with many of its city hotels like Aman New York acting as urban sanctuaries for the rich and famous, it seems like Janu sharpens this focus on transformative accommodations designed to, according to a press release, “rekindle the soul.”
These kinds of refreshing stays are becoming more common in the luxury space with upticks in technology and increased demand for comprehensive spa experiences that better align with the overall stay.
Another distinctive feature helping Janu distinguish itself from Aman is its social scene, specifically its take on “social wellness.” While Aman is a bastion of whisper-quiet peace and privacy, Janu seemingly leans on a “spirited social scene” and uses cuisine, art, design and service to achieve this. Aman’s ritzy DNA and guest experience will also inform Janu’s offering, which is framed by no less than six restaurants, including a bar lounge and garden terrace, and a 4,000-square-metre Janu Wellness Centre.
The Janu Wellness Centre will be essential to Janu Tokyo. Designed with a social wellness and goal-setting concept at its core, the facility includes five movement studios for group fitness classes (think spin, boxing and yoga classes, as well as simulated golf training), seven treatment rooms and a massive modern gym sitting next to an extensive hydrotherapy and thermal area with a 25-metre heated lap pool, two traditional spa houses and a lounge pool.
Entry-level Deluxe Rooms start at around 55 square metres, which is the average you’d expect from a top hotel in Tokyo. Size maxes out with the 284 square metre Janu Suite, although details about the specific pinnacle offering are yet to be revealed.
As for the dining scene, expect two Japanese restaurants, one for sushi and one for sumibiyaki, while there will also be a Chinese restaurant, a traditional patisserie (because you can’t have a hotel in Japan without a French bakery), a grill restaurant, and a large Italian food emporium.
No specific opening date has been set for Janu Tokyo but the property has already shot to the top of our bucket list. We’ve included it as one of the hottest hotel openings of 2023. Other Janu properties coming up include Janu Montenegro and Janu AlUla in Saudi Arabia.
