Luxury hotels getting too expensive to justify a quick staycation? How about if you were able to stay at a hotel without paying any fiat money at all? We’re not talking about your useless cache of Safemoon either, but random trinkets and curiosities that you’ve been holding onto for sentimental reasons or just prized possessions that have a cool backstory behind them. That’s exactly what QT Hotels & Resorts are accepting now as part of their (temporary) Curious Currencies initiative, spurring a bit of a competition whereby you submit an item and the story behind it in exchange for a staycation at lauded properties like QT Sydney, QT Melbourne, QT Newcastle, QT Perth and QT Wellington.
QT Hotels has set aside a year’s worth of free stays for the Curious Currencies initiative, tasking anyone across Australia and New Zealand to essentially use their chosen item to barter for accommodation. Your item and the story attached to it will have to impress or amuse QT’s Director of Chaos at the respective property, however, so a bit of creativity is required on your part.
A press release detailing the unconventional approach gives examples like a pair of well-worn Levi’s or a Pink Floyd vinyl. But really, you can submit anything that means something to you or has a story attached to it. The real value will come in when you try and justify why you feel the object is worth the rate it usually costs for a room at a QT Hotel.
It’s worth putting that creativity in too. If your backstory or tale is successful you’ll get up to one week’s complimentary stay at the QT of your choosing. Given a room at, for example, QT Sydney would cost you around $350 per night, that’s a potential value of $2,450 if you’ve got the storytelling chops to sell your item.
Submitting your item is fairly simple. Head to the website below and submit a “curiosity” alongside a 50-word blurb and an image. If it’s good enough, QT will get in touch and you’ll get yourself a week’s stay. You’ll need to submit it before October 31 though. As mentioned above, the QT Hotels Curious Currencies is only temporary.
