Not to be outdone by the likes of Langham and The Star, St. Regis Hotels & Resorts has just revealed that it will be setting up shop in the epicentre of the Gold Coast, with an expansive new property slated to welcome its first guests by 2027.
Situated inside La Pelago – a $1.7 billion luxury precinct that is being developed across Budds Beach – the new St. Regis Gold Coast resort promises to “put the [city] right back on the top of luxury travellers’ list” with the House of Astor’s patented hospitality and litany of storied in-house rituals.

Offering unparalleled views of the Surfers Paradise waterfront and Gold Coast’s hinterland region, the new property will contain some 185 rooms and suites that occupy the upper reaches of La Pelago – a bolthole-esque approach that makes this St. Regis sufficiently distinctive from the horizontally sprawled Ritz-Carlton resort located just a few minutes down the road.
Unsurprisingly, details about the hotel’s interiors and facilities are currently scant; but from the concept images provided by developer Gurner, it appears as though this latest outing from St. Regis will embrace a coastal Antipodean aesthetic, aligning it with the city’s reputation for sunshine, surf, and swim-up bars.
Signature attractions include the hotel’s huge peripheral pool; a rooftop venue; and wellness spa. All things being equal, visitors should also bet on the inclusion of a dedicated St. Regis bar – a signature of the eponymous hotel brand’s since1932, widely credited with popularising the Bloody Mary.
The reveal of this latest St. Regis property reinforces Marriott International’s already sizable investment in the Gold Coast, bringing the total number of hotels operated by the latter up to four. Until recently, the American hotelier (and owner of the St. Regis imprint) has focused largely on offering brands from its ‘Premium’ segment – including Sheraton and Marriott – within the city.
According to Sean Hunt, the group’s Area Vice President for Australia/New Zealand, the back-to-back unveiling of Ritz-Carlton and St. Regis properties on the Gold Coast (in 2026 and 2027 respectively) is indicative of “the appeal of Australia as a leading tourism destination into the future.”
“We are truly delighted to work with Gurner to bring our globally recognized St. Regis brand to Australia,” he says.
“This signing is a testament to Marriott International’s continued commitment to growing our luxury portfolio.”
