A street art exhibition dedicated exclusively to the works of Banksy will be touring Australia after opening in Brisbane this May. The Art of Banksy: Without Limits is the latest version of the long-running Art of Banksy exhibition series, which landed in Sydney a few years ago to massive acclaim. From the details, it doesn’t seem like much will be different but ‘Without Limits’ will comprise more than 150 pieces from the provocative artist, including Banksy’s original works, prints on various materials, photos, sculptures, and murals.
Never before has such a comprehensive essay on Banksy’s life and times run through Australia. Stops are planning for Sydney, Perth, Adelaide, and Melbourne, although dates are yet to be locked in. All we know so far is that the exhibition will hit Brisbane’s Queens Plaza in the CBD, running from Thursday, May 4 and it will feature the collection alongside infinity rooms and a simulation for Banksy’s experimental Dismaland Bemusement Park.
Given Banksy’s tongue-in-cheek and politically-charged version of a classic theme park Dismaland closed in 2015, the Art of Banksy: Without Limits exhibition will be your only chance to really experience just how eccentric the provocateur’s anti-Disneyland – a “family park unsuitable for children” – was.
