If you wanted to beat the heat during Melbourne’s unrelenting summers, a sweaty drive to the beaches of Port Philip Bay was about the only option you had – until now. The Funfields water theme park has just announced the opening of its new Supanova slide that stretches a massive 250 metres in length as descends from a nine-story height, catapulting riders down it at high speed.
Located on the 15.7-hectare theme park in Whittlesea, around an hour from Melbourne’s CBD, the ride cost a whopping $8 million to build over the last 18 months and is ready to open just in time for the hottest part of the Melbourne summer. The slide sends you through a kaleidoscopically colourful tunnel at ever-increasing speed till you bank hard into the 60-metre wide funnel that delivers a feeling of zero-gravity as you reach its zenith.

“We wanted to give our guests the most exhilarating waterpark experience in the world,” Funfields operations manager Stephen Philp said in a statement.
“And what we received back doesn’t disappoint. Taking a look at Supanova it’s easy to understand why. Supanova … gives the feeling of actual weightlessness with zero g-forces, which generates some serious fun for between two and four guests at a time.”
“The actual speed at which you travel depends on the total weight of the participants, but I can guarantee that it’s fast.”
While Brighton beach offers a cool spot to take a dip and enjoy your latest novel, there’s zero chance it’s providing the same fun and excitement as a go on the Funfields water park Supanova. Funfields tickets charge by the height of the riders, with no cost for kids under 100 centimetres, $52 for those between 100 and 130 centimetres, and $62 for folks taller than 130 centimetres.
