It’s the least explored part of our planet. While individuals such as Elon Musk reach for the stars in their quests to colonise other planets, there is still much to be known about what’s lurking in the darkness below us.
So how far can you dive down in one breath? Even if you could reach the maximum depth for divers (40 metres), you still wouldn’t even crack 1% of the total depth of the ocean.
Next time you’re peering out of an air plane window at a cruising altitude of 36,000 feet, stop and think to yourself that your height from the ground inverted would still not reach the lowest point of the ocean floor.
