  • Sydney Contemporary, “Australia’s premier art fair”, returns this weekend — on for four days from September 5-8.
  • Attendees can expect 500 contemporary artists and over 90 leading galleries to be exhibiting this year.
  • Tickets are available online or on the door at Carriageworks, starting at $40.

Carriageworks, the “contemporary multi-arts” organisation and popular event space, is once again hosting Sydney Contemporary — which will see some 90+ gallerists and 500 artists descend on the city’s South Eveleigh precinct this weekend.

Billed as “the largest and most diverse” art show in Australia, Sydney Contemporary is in its 8th iteration this year and, by all accounts, pretty much business as usual.

Until September 8th, lovers of paint, sculpture and mixed media have an immersive 4-day program to look forward to: packed to the rafters with artist talks, guided tours, live demonstrations and musical performances.

Ticket options range from a $40 day pass (purchasable either online or upon entry) all the way up to the fair’s VIP Program — which grants you full access over the entire schedule, use of a dedicated Carriageworks lounge and the usual array of invite-only shindigs after hours.

In the Galleries sector at this year’s Fair, there are a range of both leading and up-and-coming artists represented. Enthusiasts of glass and ceramic are advised to duck into SABBIA, whereas names like PIERMARQ* and Vermilion provide an established platform for global contemporary artists.

Just a couple of our BH-approved highlights include the ‘Talk Contemporary: Art and Fashion’ panel (1.30pm, September 5th), an offsite ‘block party’ jointly hosted by Art Leven and Anibou (4.00pm, September 6th), and live performances by the Mike Nock Trio (5.15pm, September 6th).
