- Uber celebrates 10 years in New Zealand with an Uber Snowcat
- The $1,500 private skiing experience is free for Uber One members
- Takes place over the next three weekends and is bookable through the Uber Eats app
Celebrating 10 years of changing how Kiwis move, dine, and live, Uber is taking things to new heights—literally. To mark the milestone, the tech giant has rolled out an exclusive alpine experience that combines the best of local adventure and gourmet dining, offering an unforgettable day out in New Zealand’s Southern Alps.
In a world-first activation, the company is offering Uber One members the chance to ride deep into Soho Basin, a private ski field that has been the stuff of legend. Aboard an Uber snowcat, guests will be delivered straight into one of New Zealand’s most stunning off-piste environments for a day of adventure, indulgence, and breathtaking scenery.
Best of all? It’s free for Uber One members.
Kicking off on Saturday, August 24th, the day event will run over three consecutive weekends, giving a select group of thrill-seekers exclusive access to untouched alpine terrain. Each day is limited to just 20 guests, ensuring an intimate experience as participants explore the mountain’s backcountry under the expert guidance of seasoned pros from the Soho Basin team.
The lucky guests will chart fresh lines across some of New Zealand’s most awe-inspiring landscapes, offering intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders the opportunity to tackle challenging runs while soaking up views of the iconic Southern Alps.
But the day doesn’t end on the slopes. After a morning of backcountry skiing or snowboarding, guests will be treated to an extraordinary high-altitude dining experience courtesy of award-winning Amisfield, renowned for its exceptional farm-to-table cuisine. Nestled in a secluded spot with panoramic views of the surrounding snowcapped peaks, this bespoke lunch brings together the best of New Zealand’s local flavours, carefully curated to match the setting.
The experience blends luxury with adventure in a way that is quintessentially New Zealand, creating a seamless transition between adrenaline-fuelled action and pure indulgence. For those lucky enough to secure a spot, the day promises an unforgettable celebration of everything that makes Aotearoa special—from its dramatic landscapes to its vibrant food culture.
This unique event also speaks volumes about Uber’s presence in New Zealand over the past decade. Since arriving on Kiwi shores, Uber has become a part of daily life for millions, revolutionising how people get from A to B and how they enjoy their favourite meals. Today, Uber is available in 11 cities across the country, while Uber Eats has expanded to 17 cities and towns, offering access to over 10,000 restaurants. In total, more than 2 million Kiwis have used Uber’s services, clocking up over 741 million kilometres in rides alone.
As Uber New Zealand’s Managing Director Emma Foley puts it, this milestone isn’t just about celebrating the past 10 years—it’s about continuing to innovate and enhance the lives of Kiwis. “We’re delighted to have contributed to the livelihoods of thousands of drivers and delivery people and to have helped millions of New Zealanders get around easily. With this celebration, we wanted to give back in a uniquely Kiwi way, showcasing something that hasn’t been done anywhere else in the world,” she said.
The activation also highlights Uber’s broader ambition to redefine what the platform can deliver, going beyond the everyday convenience of rides and food delivery. The Queenstown alpine adventure is just the beginning of what could be a new era of experiential offerings that merge technology, convenience, and extraordinary moments.
For those keen to take part in this once-in-a-lifetime experience, securing a spot is as easy as making sure you’re an Uber One member, opening the Uber Eats app, entering your address as Queenstown, and searching for the “Uber One Exclusive Ski Experience.”
The event will run on August 24th, August 31st, and September 6th, with reservations opening at midday (NZST) on August 20th. With only 20 spots available each day, demand is expected to be fierce.
