Golden Globes 2023 Winners Live Coverage: As we approach the final wave of categories – i.e. the only ones anyone really cares about – Jeremy Allen White has earned himself a gilded statuette

“I am in awe of you. You’re all legends, it’s an honour just to have my name near yours,” said Jeremy Allen White during his maiden Golden Globe acceptance speech; referencing his fellow Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy Series nominees Donald Glover (Atlanta), Bill Hader (Barry), as well as Steve Martin and Martin Short (Only Murders in the Building).

“My cast and crew: if I’m good, it is because you are good so thank you, thank you so much… You’ve changed my life. I am incredibly, incredibly, grateful.”

White went on to thank his wife and fellow actress Addison Timlin: “I love you deep in my bones, thank you for all that you do, thank you for everything that you’ve done.”

Created by Christopher Storer, FX’s The Bear follows Jeremy Allen White as Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto – a celebrated chef from the world of fine dining who returns to his native Chicago after the suicide of his older brother Mikey (Jon Bernthal).

Carmy comes from quite an impressive pedigree of restaurants. We’re told he’s worked at the likes of Noma, Eleven Madison Park, and The French Laundry. But with Mikey gone, he’s now left to deal with the aftermath, which just so happens to include taking over their humble family sandwich shop, The Original Beef of Chicagoland. Easier said than done.

As you probably gathered from our glowing review published last year – in which we compared it to White’s other well-known series Shameless meets Anthony Bourdain – it was a definite highlight of 2022’s serialised offerings…

In a landscape flooded with fantastical dramas that cost over $40 million per episode, an endless procession of cinematic universe expansions, and manufactured reality formats that highlight humanity’s most deplorable, we’ve forgotten about making time for the grounded, character-driven stories like FX’s latest homerun: The Bear... The level of delicately-handled introspection is comparable to The Bear‘s FX stablemate Atlanta and HBO’s Barry, and ranks among some of the finest writing in television right now. Writing that's worth your time.

Check out the results for the 2023 Golden Globes below (updated in real-time).
