50 Cent went on to explain how he envisions this small-screen adaptation as a modern retelling of the Academy Award-winning semi-autobiographical film, comparing the proposed project to Peacockโs gritty Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot backed by Will Smith himself.
โI wanna be able to show and offer a lot more details, things that you would say in an interview or different things that youโve already used, that you put out there, and stuff like that,โ said 50 Cent, teasing the possibility of a fleshed out โbackstoryโ showcasing the younger years of Eminemโs Jimmy/B-Rabbit.
โYouโll see those things kind of surface and the temperament of the characters.โ
The original 8 Mile was directed by Curtis Hanson (LA Confidential), written by Scott Silver (The Fighter, Joker), and starred Kim Basinger, Mekhi Phifer, the late Brittany Murphy, as well as Anthony Mackie, in addition to Eminem.
Aside from winning the Oscar for Best Original Song in 2002, it grossed an impressive $242.9 million against a $41 million production budget.
