Berghain is rumoured to be closing for good by the end of this year.
The legendary Berlin institution – which opened all the way back in 2004 – has once again been subject to much speculation following the sudden closure of its in-house record label and booking agency, Ostgut Ton.
German publication Faze Magazine have taken it upon themselves to investigate further by speaking to several “very well [connected]” insiders, who obviously wish to remain anonymous.

“Berghain is closing forever… the final end will come this year,” alleged one such source.
“One of the founders has already been paid out and is said to be staying in the countryside in Brandenburg, the others simply “don’t feel like it” anymore and have other life plans in mind.”
The idea of passing Berghain onto the next generation of owners is apparently “not desirable.” Meaning we shouldn’t expect any further iterations, either.
The source added: “Continuing to exist as an art location does not appear to be an option. And so this chapter should finally be closed.”

Of course, this could all just be wind. Throughout its storied 18-year tenure near the border between Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain, there have been a handful of rumours about Berghain closing for good.
Although the matter of Ostgut Ton folding in addition to earlier reports surrounding Berghain’s current financial situation certainly makes the possibility a little more believable this time around.
